Great Wave – Artwork by Nick Males

This 40oz blue tumbler features an original Great Wave design by tattoo artist Nick Males, transforming the iconic imagery of crashing ocean waves into a bold piece of tattoo-inspired artwork.

The design centers on a towering cresting wave, its curling peak breaking into sweeping, claw-like tips as it rises above the water below. Layered lines trace the movement of the sea, creating smaller rolling waves beneath the main crest and giving the entire composition a powerful sense of motion, depth, and energy.

Nick adds his own artistic character through clean flowing linework and scattered spray detailing. Dozens of engraved droplets surround the breaking wave, creating the impression of sea foam and mist exploding into the air. The circular flow of the composition pulls the individual waves together into one continuous, dynamic scene.

Inspired by the visual language of the legendary Great Wave, the artwork has a distinctly Japanese-influenced feel while retaining the clean, illustrative quality of Nick’s tattoo work.

Laser engraving removes the deep blue outer coating to reveal the bright metallic finish beneath, producing a striking silver-on-blue contrast that makes the waves and individual droplets stand out.
